When I was a 14 year old kid, I sang in the Youth Choir of Stoner Memorial AME Zion Church.
The musical director was Harriet Browder, if I recall correctly...
We were pretty good... even appeared on a local TV show on WAVE- TV called, "Sing Ye."
Once, I was given the opportunity to sing a solo on a song called, "I'm Glad." I think it was originally sang by Andre Crouch.
Man!...my first solo, and I wasn't all that great a singer. I sorta sounded like a guy giving a quarterly budget report...to music (ahem).
There I was front and center at the mic , sweating profusely and nervous as a long tailed cat in a rocking chair factory (what??) and I started to sing my heart out and then it happened.
I looked out into the congregation and saw my brother Wayne, who was an usher, and he was picking his nose...
I lost it, and that was the end of my career as a soloist.
The End.
