It was because of his hands...
I don't know if you guys ever had the chance to see the late great Prince in concert , but I did.
It was around 1982 or 83, and he was on tour for his "Controversy" album.
He had Vanity 6 ("Nasty Girls"), and The Time along for the ride.
The show was at Louisville Gardens and I believe the ticket price was $7.50 (gulp!)...
Truth be told, at the time, I didn't know WHAT to expect...I had heard a lot of ...stuff... about him and his shows...
What happened was the most energetic concert that I had ever seen. He slid down fireman poles...he leaped on and off of gigantic speakers...and he played drums, piano, synthesizers, and a variety of guitars.
Let's face it...Prince was a born performer.
Later in his life, he started having hip problems and problems with his hands. There were days, I have read, that he couldn't grip a piece of fruit and days he had to walk with a cane.
...it was his hands and the diminished use of them that got him taking more and more pain killers and the fentanyl that killed him...
His hands were his life, and I can only imagine what he thought of his life without the use of them...
