I was recently thinking about one of the most memorable ladies that ever crossed my path.
Karen.
She left this Earth almost 20 years ago (?)(!)...but she will always be a part of me.
One of the last gifts that Karen gave me before she passed, was a box set of Bruce Springsteen's "Hits That Got Away." (My last gift to her was a deep freezer...what can I say, the woman liked her frozen meats...)
Ahem...
My eyes rested on that box set while I was listening to "Born In The USA" by ...Bruce (hmm mmm) and I pulled it off the shelf and started playing some of the cuts. Karen knew I loved music and that I was a big fan of "The Boss." It was only fitting that this was the last thing I ever received from her.
I know what Barbra meant when she sang, "Memories, light the corners of my mind..."
The memories of Karen surely light the corners of mine...
Tomorrow is her daughter Katie's birthday. (She calls me "Pops"...). May you forever carry moonbeams home in a jar (smile)...
