My family lost one of our icons Thursday night, My mama's little brother and my uncle, William Howard Hayden.
In the family, he is better known as Uncle Stoney.
He was a vet of the Vietnam War, my little brother sports half of his name (Billy's real name is William Edward...the Edward comes from Uncle Stoney's brother, Edward, who passed a few years ago)...
I remember sitting next to Uncle Stoney at my mother's funeral, I was only eight, but I remember these things for some reason or another...
I had never seen a soldier break down before...never saw a soldier cry. That memory has stuck with me after all these years.
He is now gone to heaven to see mama and the rest of his family. R.I.P. Uncle Stoney...
