One of the leading influences in my life passed away last April 21.
It was Prince.
The Beatles influenced a generation of people and so did Elvis, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino...
Prince really touched me.
When I first heard "Soft and Wet" in 1979...I heard a sound like I had never experienced. When I discovered he had mastered and played ALL the instruments , I was blown away.
More albums came.."Dirty Mind", "Controversy", "1999", "the classic "Purple Rain"...(I now own every on of his works' including the jazzy "Rainbow Children" and the critically panned but fantastic, "Chaos and Disorder."
In honor of Prince, next week I will submit a list of my Top Ten of his songs. Many you may have heard, a couple you may not have, but should.
Prince represented a freedom...a freshness that will always be with me.
There will never be anyone quite like him...
