Who is Al Fritz you say? Well he was the inventor of the popular Sting-Ray bicycle of which I was a proud owner in the early 1970s.
Ah,the Sting-Ray...with it's high handlebars and it's cool banana seat. When my Mama died in 1968, one of the first things Daddy did when he received her Survivors Benefit check from Social Security was to buy my brother Wayne and I matching gold Sting-Rays. We were the envy of the entire neighborhood.
I still remember the adventures I went on with that bike...sometimes I pretended it was a motorcycle and at other times it was a horse...
Good times...good times.
So rest in peace, Mr. Fritz. Because of your imagination, Wayne and I and a generation of kids went for the ride of our lives...
Mr. Fritz was 88.
